Yes, we know Green Udders is a funny name, but we're straight up serious about our natural canine grooming products. We love dogs - and, dogs are fun! Obviously, we like to have fun, too.

Some of our products have funny names as well. Like our "Dog Nose Job TM" nose balm. Named in part because, not only do we like to amuse ourselves, but we know that if something strikes you as funny, different, or even odd - from a marketing perspective, it's much easier to remember the brand name.

Since the name is Green Udders, do your products contain milk or dairy products?

No. The silhouette of the cow and the green udders logo, represent our trademark mascot. No milk, dairy or bovine material of any kind are contained in any of our formulations, making them all vegan friendly.

General questions about Green Udders Natural Dog Grooming Products:

Do you disclose what's in your all natural dog products?
we do. The vast majority of consumers want to know what ingredients are in the products they use for their animals and on themselves.

Are you looking for more information regarding our natural ingredients?
See the complete Green Udders specific ingredients list here. Find out more about the 100% all natural ingredients we use in our products, including why we don't use some things. Discover more about the natural nut butters, carrier oils, natural waxes and essential oils we utilize in our canine aromatherapy products. Of course, you can expect the list of natural ingredients will grow as we add more products to the Green Udders line.

Do you use any natural ingredients in your dog products that come from China?
No, we do not use any natural ingredients in our formulas that are sourced from China.

Why don't you use Castor Oil in your formulations?
We DO NOT use castor oil in any of our formulations, not because of any threat of residual Ricin dangers in castor oil, but because the people harvesting it in India, Brazil and China (the major crop producers) suffer harmful side effects in handling it. Due to the toxic byproducts and allergenic compounds found on the plant surface, it can cause permanent nerve damage to the people who handle it. Although the end product, castor oil, is really cheap and has some great benefits, ethically speaking - we simply cannot justify using it in any of the products we sell.

Do your canine grooming products have a scent?
Yes. Of course they do! Products made with natural ingredients ALL have a scent. Even though we humans might not smell some subtle odors, our dogs certainly can.

We don't add fake fragrances to our products and never will. But, we're not going to tell you that because something is natural that it is unscented just because it's natural. Nut butters, botanical extracts, plant and seed oils - they all have a scent. The essential oils we use are highly concentrated and are the most 'scented' ingredient, and these oils are critical to the overall success of our products based on their unique properties individually and collectively in synergy. We've tested the "scent" of our products on a wide variety of dogs and many actually try to lick the product straight out of the container before we've tried to use it on them!

Specifically speaking, your dog's whole nose and sense of smell was a huge consideration while formulating Green Udders Dog Nose Job which is a 100% all natural product.

Are your dog products non-toxic?
Yes. We know dogs lick and that it's normal for them to do so. Our formulas are gentle, naturally effective, non-toxic and non-staining when used as directed.

Why do you put so many ingredients in some of your products?
While we like the idea of keeping things simple, we also know that in life, simple is a grand idea but, it's only an idea in a complicated world. If a rather simplistic formulation was of greater benefit, we'd be using it. Seriously. Because, for one - it would be much cheaper to manufacture and two - it would be easier to formulate as well.

The ingredients in our products are specifically selected for their beneficial individual properties. Yet, it is the synergy between a wide variety of high quality naturally derived components that culminates in a mixture that is superior in the end effect. Bottom line. It works.

When releasing new products in the future, you'll see that some of our canine grooming products are simpler in formulation because they simply work best that way!

How do you know you are buying top quality ingredients?
If you're familiar with the natural ingredient marketplace, you may already know about the substandard stuff available out there, including watered down and otherwise adulterated, inferior "natural" products. The ingredients we purchase are often referred to as human grade, therapeutic or cosmetic grade. We buy from companies that comply with strict high standards and are willing to stand behind the testing and quality of their products.

The essential oils we use are GC tested. GC stands for Gas Chromatograph, and the testing separates the individual chemical components of a particular essential oil for analysis - this procedure and resulting information insures scientifically that what is being bought and sold is the real thing. We care about the quality of the ingredients we are using and the companies we deal with do, too. Of course, there are companies out there that sell deeply discounted ingredients, including essential oils, but don't offer GC test results on their products. We prefer to deal with companies with stricter high standards because we want the assurance of obtaining premium ingredients. Bottom line - our customers appreciate it.

Why are some of the ingredients used in your formulations so expensive?
It's true. Some of the individual ingredients on our formulation list are very expensive. We didn't choose specific aromatherapy and/or natural ingredients based on price, they were chosen explicitly on the basis of positive end results. The price we pay behind the scenes in our formulations is worth the end result.

For the literal answer to the question, there are a variety of explanations and factors for the high cost of certain ingredients, in particular - the high price of some essential oils. One being the challenges in harvesting certain botanicals, the harvest availability window in specific regions, higher quality components, their limited quantity yield, etc.

Using Green Udders Natural Dog Grooming Products:

What about allergic reactions?
While safe for most, of course it is possible to be allergic to natural oils, nut oils in particular; as well as essential oils, waxes including bees wax, natural nut butters and plant extracts. Since all natural ingredients can be broken down into chemical components, allergic reactions are a possibility in sensitive animals and/or individuals.

For this reason, we recommend double patch testing outlined below.

How do I patch test for allergic reactions?
We recommend a double patch test. Apply a small amount of the product on your dog's skin in an area with little to no hair - we recommend patch testing under the armpit. Observe the area for 24 hours. If redness, irritation, or inflammation occur on the skin, discontinue use. If after 24 hours there is no reaction observed on the skin - REPEAT the patch test and check again after 12-24 hours. If there is no allergic reaction from the double patch test, it is safe to use as directed.

While we haven't received any reports of allergic reactions regarding our products to date, we recommend double patch testing ANY new product you use on your dog to rule out the possibility your pet has an allergy, even if it's not specifically recommended by the manufacturer.

Can people use these products on themselves?
Some do! Although we don't specifically target or recommend these products for human use, they are safe for external use only for most humans who are not pregnant, and - for those who are not allergic to any of the ingredients. As in the intended use of our products on your beloved dog, you should follow the double patch test instructions above to be sure that you don't have an allergic reaction. While we don't market these products for human use, nor do we recommend them for use on humans, we know people might try it on themselves anyway. That is the nature of people!

We've heard from people that have used Dog Nose Job TM in a variety of ways, although none have ever written to tell us they have used it because they themselves actually wanted a shiny human nose. They have reportedly used it successfully as a lip balm, dry skin patches, on scratches that itch, sore skin, scrapes, rashes, etc. It also works fantastic for scar reduction on both old and new scars. Some folks swear by it.

We've also heard from some people that have used Hot To Trot TM on their own feet, in particular on their cracked heels with success. While we don't specifically formulate any of our products for human use, all of the ingredients contained in our products are superior and human grade. So, if you've found success with an alternative use for Hot To Trot TM, please share it with us!

Is it safe for pregnant women?
Because pregnant women can be incredibly sensitive to a variety of natural herbal ingredients and preparations, caution should be taken by pregnant women when using any natural herbal preparation during pregnancy.

Some essential oils and herbs are contraindicated for pregnant women, particularily when taken orally, and in their concentrated states. Even though the concentrations in our formulas are small in dilution, and none of our formulas are made specifically for humans or for internal use (and are likely safe topically), we prefer to err on the side of caution and recommend pregnant women avoid direct contact - when it comes to natural herbal preparations and pregnant women, there exists much conflicting information and not enough solid research. We advise that you consult a healthcare professional for medical advice before using any natural herbal ingredients while you are pregnant.

More information regarding pregnancy and the use of natural herbs can be found here:

Are Green Udders products safe to use on my cat?
No. Do not use our dog products on your cat. They have been specifically formulated for use on dogs ONLY and have not been tested on cats. Cats are sensitive creatures and vastly different from dogs.

More Questions Received:

Can I buy advertising on your site?
No, we don't accept paid links or advertising on our site.

Is your product packaging user friendly?
YES, our Dog Nose Job TM is packaged in a plastic tub that arrives shrink wrapped and is perforated for easy removal. The container itself allows for a good grip as it measures approximately 3" across the top and has an easy to remove screw off top. In testing the product, we found that tins were cheaper, but they were more difficult to open by consumers with arthritic hands whether they were the screw off type or the pop off type.

What does this synergy and "synergistic blends" thing actually mean?
Synergy refers to the interaction of two or more substances that ultimately produces a combined effect that is greater than the sum of their separate parts. In our case, the synergistic blends that Green Udders uses refers to the combination of all specific ingredient components that results in a fantastic end product for your dog.

Why is natural better?
Of course, not all things synthesized are bad, as human ingenuity has given us (and continues to give us) so many marvelous things; but, like many people, we prefer to use natural products when possible. Why? Because of the perception that "natural" is better. You'd have to be completely sheltered to not notice at least some of the hype today in commercial advertising and print marketing when it comes to selling natural products - many that push health benefits and the "natural is better" advantage.

Get REAL and go beyond the hype! Not all "natural" things are innately gentle or inherently better. Ricin and strychnine are two examples of natural substances (among others) that are highly toxic and dangerous.

That being said, when we are looking at product labels, we prefer to be able to pronounce the ingredients and, have a basic understanding of what those ingredients are in the products that we decide to use on ourselves and on our beloved dogs. It's that simple.

Are your products FDA approved?
No. The FDA does not "approve" any of our products. Not just us... they don't "approve" or "endorse" cosmetics and/or canine grooming aids in general.

According to the FDA; Grooming aids for animals formulated only to cleanse or beautify the animal are not subject to the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

Are aromatherapy products approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration?
No. Aromatherapy products do not need approval by the FDA because no specific claims are made for the treatment of disease.

Aromatherapy is not regulated by state law, and there is no licensing required to practice aromatherapy in the United States. Professionals often combine aromatherapy training with another field in which they are licensed, for example, massage therapy, registered nursing, acupuncture, or naturopathy. Some aromatherapy courses for healthcare providers offer medical credit hours and include conducting research and measuring results.
